Camp Hero Surprise Proposal | First Trip to New York

When Evan and Abby planned their first trip to New York, Abby thought they were simply escaping for a memorable getaway to Montauk. What she didn’t know was that Evan had been quietly planning a surprise proposal at one of Long Island’s most breathtaking locations, Camp Hero State Park.
With dramatic ocean cliffs, endless Atlantic views, and peaceful walking trails, Camp Hero provided the perfect setting for a proposal neither of them would ever forget.
Why Camp Hero Is One of the Best Places to Propose in Montauk
One of the things I love most about photographing proposals is meeting couples from all over the country. Many of them are visiting Montauk for the very first time, looking for a destination that feels both adventurous and romantic.
Camp Hero has become one of my favorite proposal locations because it offers incredible scenery without feeling crowded. The cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean create a dramatic backdrop, while the natural beauty of the park keeps the focus exactly where it belongs: on the couple.
For someone planning a surprise proposal, it’s hard to imagine a more memorable place to begin forever.
A Surprise She Never Saw Coming
As we coordinated everything behind the scenes, Evan did an amazing job keeping the proposal a complete surprise.
When the moment finally arrived, Abby’s reaction was everything he had hoped for. The excitement, the happy tears, and the look of disbelief quickly turned into laughter as the reality of what had just happened began to sink in.
Those genuine emotions are exactly why I love photographing proposals. They’re completely unscripted, impossible to recreate, and become some of the most meaningful photographs a couple will ever own.
Golden Hour Along the Cliffs
After the proposal, there was no rush.
We explored the beautiful coastline around Camp Hero, taking advantage of the soft golden evening light while capturing the excitement of their first moments as an engaged couple.
Some of my favorite images weren’t posed at all. They were simply Evan and Abby laughing together, soaking in the fact that their vacation had just become one of the biggest days of their lives.
